Year 1
The fundamentals of design are learned through a series of design based lectures and studio projects exploring still & life drawing, illustration, and typographical studies. Through a range of media and computer applications the student will learn colour theory, history of design, typography, illustration, technical drawing, psychology & philosophy and 2D and 3D design.
Year 2
Concentrating more on creating finished products presentable to clients, the student learns to apply their design skills practically by creating a series of projects, such as magazines, corporate identities, illustrated events, exhibition and displays, and illustrations suitable for publication.
Second year also focuses on the professional development of the student, ensuring they have a range of marketing and presentation skills coupled with a portfolio suitable for presentation to clients and employers.
Certification
On successful completion, students will be awarded with the BTEC Higher National Diploma in Graphic Design. This is equivalent to Level 6 on the National Framework of Qualifications for Ireland. The student will also have a strong portfolio of creative original designs, which not only show the student's varied skill set, but demonstrate their ability to communicate visually.
"All assignment briefs were well planned, clearly written, giving excellent detail as to all requirements of the project. This enables the students to work in a genuinely realistic way and also gives multiple opportunities for the practice of skills through varied complex tasks."
