Interior Design Course Details

This internationally recognised diploma course provides students with advanced design skills. The course focuses on developing Interior Design skills for commercial and residential sectors. The student will learn to develop innovative interiors design schemes for large scale commercial and residential buildings and to solve complex design problems creatively. Students will gain a wide skill-set incorporating techniques such as surveying, sketch designing, technical drawing, conceptual designs, artistic rendering, and presentation in both print and digital media.

Course Description

The Higher National Diploma programme will help you expand your career options by:

Providing you with an excellent grounding in design theory and practice.
Providing you with a portfolio of technical skills that will allow you to work effectively as a professional and adapt to the changing needs of industry.
Equipping you with a knowledge and understanding of business and the profession.
Enabling you to develop a portfolio of transferable personal skills, including organising your own business, communication, problem-solving and team-working.

Year 1:

1. Drawing Techniques & Processes in Art and Design (including CAD)
2. Interior Design
3. Ideas Generation & Development
4. Contextual and Cultural Referencing
5. Professional Practice
6. Project Design, Implementation & Evaluation
7. Design Method
8. Visual Communication

Year 2:

9. Critical Study
10. Professional Studies
11. Art, Design and Media Practice within the Digital Environment

12. Furniture Design
13. Specialist 3D Materials
14. Design Principles
15. Visual and Personal Presentation
16. Exhibition and Retail Design

Certification

On successful completion, students will be awarded the BTEC Higher National Diploma in Interior Design. This is equivalent to Level 6 on the National Framework of Qualifications for Ireland.

Further Progression

Dublin Institute of Design offers a one year BA(Hons) Top-Up Degree to graduates of our HND Interior Design programme.
