This year’s Institute of Designers in Ireland (IDI) 2016 Grand Prix Graduate winner is Dublin Institute of Design’s Alessandra Ravida. The Grand Prix is awarded to the stand out design project that not only reaches excellence in their category but also demonstrates a level of maturity in design thinking and execution.
The award ceremony took place in NCAD on Thursday 10th November with winners selected from over 300 entries across 9 categories. Dublin Institute of Design, the relative new kid on the block, had 4 shortlisted projects. These were in the categories of Book design, Typography & Identity/Branding, with a win in the Typography category and also taking home the overall winning award, the Grand Prix.
The project was Alessandra’s major design project for her BA in Graphic Design. “The project itself had excellent conceptual rigour based on solid research and the execution was impeccable. Alessandra experimented repeatedly and tirelessly iterated to produce an extremely well resolved project”, says Danielle Townsend – Head of Department of Graphic Design at the Institute.
The Institute’s Director, Shane Connolly, says that “the Institute and its students have had success in a number of awards in recent times but the IDI Grand Prix represents a truly great achievement and reflects the calibre of graduate being produced by the Institute.”
