The presentation of products and space management are key factors in the success of any store. This course will prepare graduates for a career as Visual Merchandisers and Retail Display Designers.
This course will suit those interested in pursuing a career in visual merchandising as well as those already working in the retail sector seeking a recognised certificate qualification or looking to develop their merchandising skills and knowledge. The objective of this highly practical programme is to ensure that students are furnished with the core concepts and skills used in visual merchandising.

During this course you will learn the theory and core skills of visual merchandising, gain practical competence in retail display, as well as an understanding of brand image and consumer behaviour in a store context.
Topics covered include:
- The role of the Visual Merchandiser within the Retail System
- Fundamentals of Visual Merchandising
- Fixtures and Fittings: how to suit them to the product; custom built or ready made
- Mannequins: suitability; how to dress them
- Use of Props: where to get props; how to use them
- Graphics: as a prop/visual aid; as information
- Colour and Lighting: its importance; best uses
- Merchandising: general tips; visual awareness; customer relations/communication

On successful completion of the course, students will be awarded a Dublin Institute of Design Certificate in Visual Merchandising and Window Dressing.
