Your first year will focus on the core competencies required to build strong foundations as a design practitioner.
You will focus on idea generation, problem solving, design process and communication in response to a series of briefs. You will also use industry standard software to implement your design solutions.
The emphasis is on building your skills as a design thinker. We focus strongly on the process, not just the outcome.

In Year 2, you will build upon these skills, taking on challenging projects in editorial design, branding and identity design, web design, illustration and image manipulation.
You will also look at design in a broader societal and cultural context through a large-scale project.
The modules are taught by practicing designers, and briefs are realistic and industry-focused, allowing you to create a dynamic portfolio.

Online Delivery for Term 1
Due to public health measures, we are delivering classes online for the first term of this academic year.
We will return to face-to-face classes on-campus as soon as it is safe to do so. In returning to face-to-face delivery, there may be some unavoidable changes to scheduled class times and/or days.
All enrolled students will be given as much notice as possible in the event of scheduling changes.
On successful completion, you will be awarded the BTEC Higher National Diploma in Graphic Design. This qualification is equivalent to Level 6 on the National Framework of Qualifications Ireland.
BTEC is the largest accrediting body in the UK, and BTEC qualifications are recognised globally.
Applicants with previous education or experience in graphic design may apply for Advanced Entry to this programme.
On successful completion of this course, you will be eligible to apply for Advanced Entry to Year 3 of the QQI-accredited Level 7 BA Degree in Graphic Design at Dublin Institute of Design.
