Graphic Design graduates winners and shortlisted for Institute of Designers in Ireland Award 2018

Dublin Institute of Design was delighted to see five of its graduates being shortlisted for the IDI Graduate Awards who took place on 6th December last in the IADT. From 488 entries representing 23 colleges across Ireland, 97 graduates were shortlisted across 22 categories of design. As always, the quality of the submissions was high, which makes it all the more impressive that five of our students were shortlisted across five categories.
Tatiana Macari took away the top prize for her APP in the Product Design Social category, which looked at increasing rates of obesity, and tackled food waste and plastic waste. Aideen O’Neill was commended in the Visual Communications category for the use of Typography in her book ‘the irish woman’s place’. Our congratulations to them both, and to our other shortlisted graduates: Anne Maloney (Illustration); Lauren Day (UX design); and Melissa Sirois (Printed book). Each project was put on display at the awards nights and each shortlisted graduate received a certificate in recognition of their achievements.
Also playing a part in this event on the night was Danielle Townsend, our Head of Department for Graphic Design – she presented the awards to the newest design graduates on behalf of the IDI.
Well done also to all the staff who contributed to the success of our shortlisted students. Participation in competitions like the IDI Graduate Awards is an important opportunity to showcase graduates’ work as they venture out into the workplace.

Congratulations to BA Degree Graphic Design graduate Aideen O'Neill on being accepted into the prestigious International Society of Typographic Designers, for her book the irish woman’s place.
the irish woman’s place focuses on the rights of women in Ireland throughout the years. This book uses many design elements to demonstrate barriers that women in Ireland have faced, and explains the defining moments that have lead us to where we are now as a society.
Celebrated type designer Erik Spiekermann, one of the world’s leading authorities on typography, has described the International Society of Typographic Designers’ student assessment as "the most rigorous and honest assessment in the world".

The Fashion Design Department would like to send a huge congratulations to our HNC Fashion Design student Ágota Pfening who was awarded the first price in her category at the Frankfurt Style Awards student fashion competition over the weekend.
Frankfurt Style Awards is one of the world’s most established global fashion contests for students with entries from 750 global design colleges. This is the first award in the competition for an Irish student so well done Ágota

The creative talent from our Fashion design department just keeps going from strength to strength every year. We are thrilled to announce that ou 5 students - Magdalena Kochan, Ágota Pfening, Malvina Balaska, Monika Zielinska and Lorea Suarez - have been selected as finalists in the Frankfurt style awards International fashion competition.

DID Fashion Design student overall winner of DCU Fashion Show

We are delighted to announce that Dublin institute of Design Fashion design student Kirsten Durand-O'Connor was chosen as the overall winner of this year’s DCU fashion show.
Annually, The DCU Style Society design and produce one of the biggest student events in the country; In recent years the show has raised its standards by receiving sponsorship from Justeat.ie and bank of Ireland as well as gaining national coverage on TV3’s Xposé.
This competition gives design students the chance to showcase their designs in front of a panel of judges. The finals of Project Young Designer which took place during the DCU Fashion Show in the helix in March.
Kirsten the our winner will have the incredible opportunity to showcase and sell her designs in Om Diva boutique based in the heart of the Dublin city.

IDI Graduate Awards 2016 GRAND PRIX Winner Alessandra Ravida

We are delighted to announce Dublin Institute of Design student Alessandra Ravida has been chosen as The Grand Prix Winner of The Institute of Designers in Ireland Graduate Design Award 2016 This is significant result for our College and huge congratulations to Alessandra for winning 3 awards: Overall Grand Prix winner, winner in the typography category and commendation in the book category.
The exhibition of all the shortlisted finalists and those who win prizes will run from 5pm to 9pm on 10th Nov – NCAD Gallery, Thomas St, Dublin 8
The Institute of Designers in Ireland is Ireland’s largest and oldest association of design professionals. The IDI represents and supports creativity within a wide range of disciplines including Design Education, Design Management, Digital & Interactive Design, Fashion & Textile Design, Architecture, Interior Architecture, Exhibition, Set Design, Motion Graphics & Animation, Visual Communications, Product, Industrial, Furniture, Craft and Service Design.

DID students finalist for Frankfurt Style Award

Congratulations to Olivia Kearney whose designs were shortlisted to the final 10 at the Frankfurt Style Awards on Friday night!
The third International Call for Entry for the FRANKfurtstyleaward resulted in 60 Finalists from 11 countries and 25 fashion schools from all over the world who are eager to win the prestigious international Talent Contest for Fashion Design. From initially 270 submissions, the 60 Finalists are invited to produce their designs for the presentation at the FRANKfurtstyleaward GALA to a high-profile audience of international fashion designers, trend scouts and VIP’s at the Alte Oper Frankfurt on September 23rd, 2016.
This year’s contest motto was „World of Contradictions“

Congratulations to our 3rd year Graphic Design student Alessandra Ravida who has been selected for International Society of Typographic Designers membership. ISTD membership is one of the most highly regarded graphic design affiliations in Europe and applicants work is judged on multiple occasions with a relatively small number of applicants being offered membership each year.

DID Graphic student shortlisted for poster competition

Congratulations to our 3rd year Full Time students, Nicole Di Nardo, shortlisted for the "To Death with a Smile" Poster Competition. She has been shortlisted from over 20,000 entries and her work will feature in the Exhibition in Mexico’s MUMEDI, the Museum of Mexican Design for a period of 3 to 4 months, and at the end of 2016 the exhibit will travel to Spain and Finland.

Congratulations to Laurie Concannon who has been announced as the overall winner of the Yamaha International GDAY design award. Laurie's design was chosen out of 1100 entries by a panel of renowned international designers, which included Neville Brodie.
Congratulations also goes to Faryl Roberts who has been announced as the winner of the Audience Award, as "liked" by voters across the globe.

We are delighted to announce our student Roxana Wegner as a Winners of the March 2014 Getty Photo Competition. There was almost 150 photos submitted for this contest and the standard was really high, which made it very hard to pick just one winner.

We also have a great pleasure to present two our students Aislinn Farrell and Patti McCann entered the April 2014 Tigerprint Competition. The brief asked them to design a Black and White print to be used in Marks & Spencers gift-ware range. The resulting prints are creative and exciting. Well done to both students.
